Replacing Clinical Attire

This page was posted prior to July 1, 2013, and now serves as an archive. For the most up-to-date information, visit the visual identity website.

Faculty, staff, and students will have appropriately branded clinical attire by July 1, 2013.

Clinical attire—lab coats, scrubs, shirts, or other required garments—branded with the UMDNJ name or logo may not be worn after June 30, 2013. Replacement attire with Rutgers branding will be provided as outlined below.

Rutgers will purchase all replacement clinical attire through UMDNJ’s sole provider of rented and purchased attire, FDR Services Corp. (which recently acquired Angelica and assumed its contract). Under the terms of the contract, which will transfer to Rutgers on July 1, 2013, FDR Services Corp. will continue as the approved provider of branded clinical attire through 2016.

Rented vs. Purchased Attire

Replacement attire will be provided under the same conditions that currently exist: units/individuals that rent attire will continue to rent, and those who purchase will continue to purchase.

Distribution Logistics

Replacement attire will be distributed on a rolling basis, as items are collected for cleaning. There will be designated drop-off locations for those who do not use the cleaning service. On-site fittings have begun. FDR also will work directly with each school to arrange fittings and place orders for faculty, staff, and students who wish to purchase additional clinical attire.

Anyone who currently rents clinical attire is strongly advised to return as many UMDNJ-branded sets/items of clinical attire as possible to a collection point by June 10, 2013, in order to receive Rutgers-branded attire by July 1, 2013.

Please be assured that everyone will have at least one set/piece of Rutgers branded attire by July 1, 2013.

Standards for Attire

Rental attire will have patches—UMDNJ patches will be removed and replaced with newly branded Rutgers patches. Purchased attire will be embroidered with the new branding.

The standard for personalization on lab coats and other clinical attire will be nonscript lettering, limited to a maximum of three lines with no more than 40 characters per line, including spaces.
