These FAQ were submitted and answered prior to July 1, 2013, and this page now serves as an archive. For the most up-to-date information, visit the website of the department responsible for the topic area.


Will students who graduated from UMDNJ be able to state that they have degrees from Rutgers University after July 1, 2013?
Any student who graduates on or before June 30, 2013, will be considered a UMDNJ graduate. All graduates from prior years will remain UMDNJ graduates. Students who graduate after July 1, 2013, will be Rutgers graduates.

Will my UMDNJ degree be compromised or considered invalid after July 1, 2013?
No. UMDNJ is a fully accredited university. All UMDNJ degrees will retain their integrity after the schools are integrated into Rutgers. As a part of Rutgers University, your school will continue to maintain your academic record and will verify your degree. Graduates should continue to have the appropriate certifications for their professional work and therefore the same opportunities within their professional fields.

What university name will appear on my diploma?
For current UMDNJ students who complete their degree programs prior to July 1, 2013, diplomas will state “UMDNJ” and include the UMDNJ school, degree, and date of graduation.

For current UMDNJ students who complete their degree programs after July 1, 2013, and whose last registration is in the 2012–2013 academic year or terms, diplomas will state “Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey” and will include the name of the UMDNJ school, “formerly of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey,” degree, and date of graduation.

For current UMDNJ students who will complete their degree programs in the 2013–14 academic year or beyond, their diplomas will state “Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey” and will include the name of their school, degree, and date of graduation.

How will UMDNJ graduates obtain replacement diplomas?
If a UMDNJ graduate needs a replacement diploma in the future, Rutgers will produce a diploma that will indicate the student’s UMDNJ school, degree, and date of graduation. Replacement diplomas requested by UMDNJ alumni after July 2013 will state “Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey” and will include the name of the UMDNJ school, “formerly UMDNJ,” degree, and date of graduation. Details about how to order a replacement diploma will be made available after July 1, 2013.

I am a new student at UMDNJ. What is the name of the university from which I will be graduating?
If you graduate after July 1, 2013, you will graduate from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

I have a doctoral degree from UMDNJ and would like to purchase regalia for academic events. Should I purchase UMDNJ robes/colors or Rutgers robes/colors?
It is optional. You may order either the UMDNJ or the Rutgers robes. The Rutgers bookstores can handle orders for either set of robes.

How do I request a transcript as a UMDNJ student or alumnus after July 1, 2013?
Effective July 1, 2013, legacy UMDNJ students and alumni may request academic transcripts online through the Rutgers University Transcript and Verification Request Application.

Legacy UMDNJ students and alumni should not request transcripts via the Rutgers University Transcript and Verification Request Application until July 1, 2013. For transcripts required before July 1, UMDNJ students and alumni should contact their school’s records office.
