Will UMDNJ students who transfer to Rutgers have access to the Rutgers dining halls and meal plans?
A plan currently under development will allow UMDNJ students to sign up for meal plans at Rutgers’ dining halls. More details will be available later.

Will students who are enrolled in legacy UMDNJ schools as of fall 2013 be able to apply for graduate housing?
Yes. Effective July 1, 2013, legacy UMDNJ students can apply for housing in New Brunswick/Piscataway for programs in Piscataway and New Brunswick. However, for the 2013–2014 academic year, there will be limited availability. For New Brunswick/Piscataway applications, contact the Housing and Residence Life assignments office at 732-445-0750.

Effective July 1, 2013, legacy UMDNJ students can apply for housing in Newark for the programs in Newark. Note that 180 Market Street (legacy UMDNJ housing) will be reserved for Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) students. If there is availability, applications from non-RBHS graduate students will be considered. For questions about housing in Newark, contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life at 973-353-1037.

How will the current Rutgers bus system change to accommodate the legacy UMDNJ entities?
Existing Rutgers and legacy UMDNJ bus routes will continue as they currently exist. Students, faculty, and staff should be prepared to present their university identification as required in order to use the buses. For more information about routes and schedules, please visit the Rutgers links provided below.

Will University Hospital employees continue to have access to the UMDNJ and CHEN shuttle bus services to Newark Penn and Broad Street train stations?
University Hospital employees will continue to have these services after July 1, 2013. There are no plans to restrict access to these services or to change existing UMDNJ routes.

Will UMDNJ students and medical residents who are becoming part of Rutgers on July 1 have access to the Rutgers recreation facilities?
Yes, students and medical residents enrolled in legacy UMDNJ schools can purchase gym memberships for an annual fee. Annual memberships begin on July 1, 2013, and are valid from the date of purchase through June 30, 2014. Memberships purchased after July 1 will be prorated by month.

In New Brunswick/Piscataway, memberships can be purchased at any recreation center with a valid school ID. Please visit the Rutgers Recreation website for information on facilities and hours of operation or contact the administrative office at 732-445-0462 for more information about purchasing a membership.

In Newark, memberships can be purchased at the Golden Dome Athletic Center with a valid school ID. Please visit the Golden Dome website for hours of operation or contact 973-353-5474 for more information about purchasing a membership.

Will housing be available for legacy UMDNJ medical residents and postdoctorate fellows?
As of July 1, on-campus housing at 180 West Market Street will be available to all graduate students, postdoctorate fellows, and medical residents of all graduate schools and programs of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences in Newark.

Effective July 1, 2013, legacy UMDNJ students in Rutgers programs in Stratford can apply for housing in Camden. However, for the 2013–2014 academic year, there will be limited housing available. For Camden applications, contact the Housing and Residence Life office at 856-225-6471.

Where will faculty, staff, and students be able to park after the integration?
Faculty and Staff
All faculty and staff can continue to park in the common faculty and staff parking lots to which they currently have access. Additionally, faculty and staff will have access to all common faculty and staff lots at all campuses on July 1, 2013. Existing Rutgers and legacy UMDNJ lots and sections of lots reserved for assigned parking will continue to operate as is.

All faculty and staff can request access to P1, P2, and P3 parking decks on the Rutgers Health Sciences Campus at  Newark by emailing info@aps.rutgers.edu.

Students
Students can continue to park in the student parking zone(s) to which their current permit grants them access.Students of legacy UMDNJ schools that currently access P1, P2, and P3 parking decks in Newark can continue to access those decks after July 1. Student access to those parking decks will only be available to individuals enrolled in legacy UMDNJ schools.

When will legacy UMDNJ hangtags expire? What is the process for purchasing a parking permit? What will the cost per parking pass be?
Hangtags
Legacy UMDNJ hangtags will remain valid until their expiration date or until they are phased out as coordinated by Rutgers Department of Transportation. Rutgers will provide an equivalent parking permit (same zone and duration) for legacy UMDNJ parking permits that may be phased out. More information will be provided at a future date.

Purchasing Parking Permits
Existing Rutgers faculty, staff, and student parking permits can be purchased online using NetIDs or in person at existing Rutgers parking offices.

Legacy UMDNJ faculty, staff, and student parking permits can be purchased in person through the parking office on the Rutgers Health Sciences Campus at Newark located at 30 Bergen Street, Administrative Complex (ADMC), Building 3, Room 301 or through the Liberty Plaza Public Safety office in New Brunswick, 335 George Street, Suite 100. In the future, the ability to purchase a permit at Liberty Plaza may change and transition to a different location. Information related to parking in Stratford will be provided at a later time.

Current fee structures will remain in place for legacy UMDNJ and Rutgers faculty, staff, and student parking permits for the 2013–2014 academic year.

What is the process to appeal Rutgers parking tickets?
Parking tickets can be appealed through an online process described on the back of each ticket.

Will there be any changes to the mail distribution process?
On July 1, the mail distribution process will remain the same. Following the transition, mail stops may be consolidated within buildings.

Will legacy UMDNJ or Rutgers emergency contact numbers change on July 1?
The emergency contact number for legacy UMDNJ and Rutgers University is 9-1-1. The nonemergency number for the legacy UMDNJ schools in New Brunswick/Piscataway will change to the existing RUPD phone number 732-932-7211. The legacy UMDNJ nonemergency line on the Rutgers Health Sciences Campus at Newark will remain the same, 973-972-4491.
